Has anybody found a solution when and 8GB upgrade is installed the computer won't boot?
Apple says it's bad memory and Crucial says it's something with the comuter, since they both get there memory from the same source.

It could be both, it may be neither. If you ordered your memory from Crucial after using the Memory Advisor or the System Scanner, then the memory you recieved should be compatible. However, the higher you push the amount the greater strain you apply to the memory controller. So, even if all your memory is compatible and your system is in perfect shape, you may find issues when installing that much memory. So, you may have to perform some minor checks and adjustments. Crucial would therefore be correct in saying that memory is not the issue. However, what they are lacking in explanation is that the amount may be too much. And Apple may be correct in saying that the pc is fine. And what they are lacking in explanation is that the system will be fine so long as you don't push or exceed their standard specifications. Neither is wrong in telling you that no fault lies with them. Since you are the person making the change that causes problems, you need to understand their perceptions of liability.
Test each kit individually using MemTest86+. If neither kit fails, then test each pair of slots. If no slots fail, then your memory controller will just need some extra luvin' to get it to run the memory amount you want. The two methods of stabilizing a controller are through the memory voltage and through the FSB voltage. Try bumping up those voltages slightly, if you can, starting with memory voltage first. Good luck with your upgrade!! And let us know your results. Mac's are especially difficult PCs to tweak.

Yes there is a problem with the memory in the MACBook Pro. Apple and Crucial are working on the issue. As of now, Crucial has stopped selling this memory for the MACBook Pro Late 2008 and Mid 2009 models. Crucial has assured me they will find a solution to the problem and are offering RMAs until they fix the issue.

Its a problem of incompatibility between the chips and the computer - only affects the occasional upgrade. If you have tried each module in turn in your macbook pro with the other original ones, and all the new ones work, contact customer service, explain the problem and they will let you return them for a refund. They are currently in the process of solving the problem and I've heard they should have new modules in stock next week, but this may only be for Macbook Pro models up to mid 2008. When you contact customer service, they should be able to advise you.
I really wouldn't suggest tinkering with voltages on your machine (as lordgllynn suggests) - same as you shouldn't tinker with fan speeds and settings and things like that. As an ex Apple Genius, I can tell you that if you have any further problems with your machine and take it into the store to get fixed, or send it back to them, they won't touch it if you've installed or used modification software like that, and yes, we can tell!
