I just bought a 1GB Corsair xms2 DDR2 800 Ram card and I have a ECS Model 945GCT-M2. Is this RAM card compatible or will I haveto return it.

You should check the ECS forum/ Support page from ECS for their memory QVL (Qualified Vendor Listing). Crucial cannot cross check memory made from another manufacturer: Corsair.

most likely NOT...
your machine has two slots for memory they are for :
Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 2 GB
Support DDR2 667/533/400 DDR2 SDRAM
so the max ram you can have in that machine is two 1GB sticks (matched pai)
