Raid 0 sometimes boot problems

Hi,

I have windows 7 on 2 crucial M225 64GB's running in Raid0 on an ICH10R controller (rampage II gene board), and I have the following problem.

Sometimes the computer freezes, and keeps repeating the sound of the last half-second a lot. When I restart, there seem to be some problems with the boot disk; often the system doesn't find one of the SSD's, which of course makes the raid fail. Usually I can temporarily 'fix' the problem by turning it off for a few minutes, check the cables (seem to be fine) and checking the boot settings in the BIOS.

Then it recognizes the disks again, and runs fine - until at some point it freezes again.

Any thoughts on what I should check?

Re: Raid 0 sometimes boot problems

Is the PC overclocked? I've read this happens in the PC is overclocked and the chipset voltage is not high enough to compensate.

Re: Raid 0 sometimes boot problems

No, it's not overclocked. It's a standard I7 920 at 2660 MHz (normal) and standard voltage.

Just in case it helps, here is a list of parts:

PSU corsair HX850

mboard Asus Rampage 2 gene

CPU I7 920, D0 stepping

Cooler: Prolimatech megahalems

RAM: 3x 2GB Patriot Viper 1600 C8

GPU: sapphire radeon HD 5850

Boot: raid0 of 2 64GB Crucial M225's (created with ICH10R utility)

Storage: samsung spinpoint F3 1TB

Case: hand made

Everything is running at default settings, nothing is overclocked or over/undervolted - so I don't get it. What could be wrong?

Wait, do SSD's need to be grounded? Because that would explain just about everything. Gonna try that.

Re: Raid 0 sometimes boot problems

I think it solved the problem, I haven't had any more repeats this weekend. It appears SSD's most definitely need to be grounded.
