I downloaded the Crucial system scanner app onto my Acer Aspire 9410Z laptop.
The scanner app recommended I purchase 4GB for my laptop - (2) 2GB memory boards. So I ordered that much memory online at Crucial.com
I received the memory boards in a timely manner.
But when I tried to install both of the 2GB memory boards my laptop would not boot up.
It turns out that the ACER Aspire 9410Z can only handle 2GB memory maximum. So I could only install one of the 2GB memory boards and had to leave in one of the original 512k memory boards.
So I purchased way more memory per the recommendations of the scanner app than what I needed - not happy about that.
Crucial needs to fix their scanner app regarding Acer Aspire 9410Z laptops.

Hello Michael,
Do you have your scan ID number? If not, would you mind running a new scan and give me the scan ID so the System Scanner team can find your scan and look closer at the results? When I look up the 9410Z via the Memory Advisor it shows a maximum of 2GB, so we do have the laptop in our system. The scan ID would help us narrow down what went wrong.
Thanks,

Acer website specs the RAM as DD2-533... Scanner returns DDR-667 sticks. Will they work OK?

Hello,
DDR2-533 is also known as PC2-4200. PC2-4200 memory is no longer manufactured. Memory is all designed to be backwards compatible as long as you stay in the same type of memory. A PC2-5300 module will clock down to run at PC2-4200 just fine in the Aspire 9410 machine.

Thanks for the reply on the memory question.
The scanner problem remains. The Aspire 9410Z is only capable of holding 2G RAM MAX according to the Acer specs. The scanner says it can hold 4G??

The scan ID you posted shows recommendations for a 9410, and not for a 9410Z. The chipsets they use are very similar, and it's possible that confused the scanner a little bit. You can see upgrades for the Aspire 9410 on this page.

Thank you for verifying that the scanner can't tell the difference between a 9410 and 94190Z.
